At Kalani, every metre of fabric matters, we reduce textile waste. Producing ethically, sustainably, and without waste isn’t optional—it’s our mission. And one question often comes up: what happens to the fabric offcuts from the production of our bed linen?
Spoiler alert: they’re not wasted—they’re upcycled.
“Nothing is lost, everything is transformed”
In our zero-waste approach, we are committed to reducing waste from the design phase.
We take action at various levels to avoid waste:
• Smart product design: formats are created to optimise the use of fabric rolls.
• Creative reuse of offcuts: leftovers are repurposed into other products.
Soft & Eco-Friendly Sleep Masks
This is our zero-waste bestseller: the Kalani sleep mask, made from offcuts of organic cotton (jersey or sateen) used in the production of our sheets and duvet covers. They’re ultra-soft, GOTS & Fairtrade certified, and come in a lovely matching pouch—also made from offcuts and produced in limited editions depending on our production cycles.

Clever & Sustainable Tote Bags
Each Sateen, Percale or Jersey duvet cover is carefully folded and placed in a reusable fabric bag (tote-style) made from offcuts left over from cutting larger pieces.
This tote bag:
• Replaces single-use packaging
• Becomes a practical and durable everyday bag
• Can also be used to store a full bed set in your cupboard
• Is made from the same soft, organic, and long-lasting fabrics
And Why Not… Zero-Waste Gift Wrapping?
You might have seen our article about furoshiki—the Japanese fabric gift-wrapping technique.
It’s a concept we love at Kalani. While we don’t yet produce furoshikis from our offcuts, we are considering offering upcycled fabric squares for your gift wrapping or DIY creations.
Psst: your old sheets can also become furoshiki, tea towels, or bulk bags!
