Carbon neutral, Reducing our ecological footprint day by day.<\/h4>

\nCarbon neutrality means that the carbon footprint of a company, product, service or event has been calculated based on internationally recognised standards and fully offset by supporting certified carbon offset projects.\n

\nSince 2021, in addition to everything we have already put in place, our goal has been to become a certified \"carbon neutral company\". This implies, as explained above, accounting for everything we consume as a company in terms of energy, water, heating, consumables of all kinds, travel (to suppliers, trade fairs, events, to work,...) as well as resources for our e-shop (server, annual data,...).\n

\nThis comprehensive analysis allows us, firstly, to measure and become aware of our carbon footprint, and secondly, to implement concrete actions to reduce and optimise our carbon footprint. To compensate for the balance of our CO2 footprint, we have decided to participate in an offsetting project by financing photovoltaic panels in India.\nA project that makes sense when you consider that a large part of the production comes from India, and that we also support them by participating in local ecological projects. \nThe circle is complete... And the virtuous circle in which we have decided to engage continues to evolve every day.\n<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

2. How can we calculate the footprint of our products ? <\/h3>

In order to communicate this as clearly as possible, we have teamed up with a leading external partner in environmental impact communication who, thanks to the information and measurement collections that were carried out during the first 3 years, has put in place a simple way to calculate the ecological footprint of our bed linen. It is therefore now possible for us to show in all transparency our impacts based on a life cycle inventory (LCI) of our products from organic cotton fields to our warehouse.\nFor the moment, we cannot yet base ourselves on a complete life cycle assessment because the major actors and authors of the studies on this subject cannot yet agree on a common way of calculating the end-of-life impacts of products and their possible disposal.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Comparison and reduction of environmental impact<\/p>\n4 environmental impacts were calculated by comparing one kilo of Kalani organic cotton bed linen produced in India to one kilo of conventional cotton bed linen produced globally based on a weighted average of all cotton producing countries in the world based on reliable and verified statistics:<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Decrease in water consumption: 96%<\/h3>

Every kilogram of organic cotton jersey bed sheets, for example, saves the planet 1,483.8 litres of water compared to a production of one kilogram of conventional cotton bed sheets, which is equivalent to a 96% reduction in water consumption. Especially since our beautiful cotton comes from a province in India where it rains enough and no human irrigation is necessary to grow cotton. On average, a family in the world consumes 8.8 litres of fresh water per day, so the saving is equivalent to 168,61 days of drinking water for an average family.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Energy consumption savings: 6%<\/h3>

Each kilogram of organic cotton percale bed sheets, for example, saves the planet 4.79 kWh (4,790 Wh) compared to a production of one kilogram of conventional cotton bed sheets, which is equivalent to a 6% reduction in energy consumption. On average, a LED light bulb consumes 10 Wh per hour, so the saving is equivalent to 479 hours (~20 days) of energy to continuously light a LED light bulb.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Reduction in synthetic fertilizer use and pesticide use: 100%<\/h3>

For example, each kilogram of organic cotton sateen bed sheets saves the planet 529.9 grams of synthetic fertilizer (including 3.3 grams of pesticides) compared to a production of one kilogram of conventional cotton bed sheets, which is equivalent to a 100% reduction in pesticide use. Principles of organic agriculture prohibit the use of chemical pesticides, chemical fertilisers and chemical herbicides (products dangerous to humans, biodiversity and the environment). Instead we replace these by ancestral methods that are very effective on fertile and well-maintained land. This is even more important when you consider that conventional cotton production consumes nearly 25% of the world's pesticides.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
